Silk was born in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. Ilkay Silk is the child of Peter Silk, a professor and Anna Silk, an actress, director and producer. She is also a playwright. Anna remembers her mother working in the theatre and going to rehearsals. Silk appeared in several commercials while she was young. She earned her Bachelor of Arts was awarded from St. Thomas University, 1997. The early stage work she did includes at least two productions in collaboration with Theatre St. Thomas: Seven Menus and The Kitchen. Silk made the move to Toronto to pursue her acting career in the month of November 1999. She later, in the following decade relocated in the following decade to Los Angeles, California. Seth Cooperman met Silk at the Actors Workshop held in Los Angeles in 2007. The couple got engaged in 2009, and wed in the civil ceremony on December of that year. In Fredericton on 10 April 2011 following her conversion to Judaism they renewed vows during an Jewish marriage ceremony.
